Experiencing Play-doh

With more time off to spend with my little guy, we are now able to get into more time consuming toys, like Play-doh. Daniel seems to be entering the next level of play also. He seems more focused on one toy at a time and he also will now sit and color or draw (scribble) for more than five minutes. It's pretty pleasant because I can sit at the table and do other things while he colors.

Back to the Play-doh - it appears my son enjoys stuffing the Play-doh in the tubs and then taking it back out and then in, then out. Oh yeah - he likes the lids too. He had more fun just doing that than anything else. Wait - he did try to taste it once, but I caught him and explained that while we all ate Play-doh as kids, I still didn't think it was a necessary staple in his particular diet.

Speaking of diet, his is changing yet again. Guess what brilliant mother (me, in case you weren't sure!) figured out how to get her son to drink milk??!! Since coming home, we have pretty much been solely giving Daniel juice (mixed with water, since he won't drink water either) to drink. I have been trying and trying to figure out what else I could give him. Crystal Light was a no go with Daniel too. So I sat there one night and out comes Troy with his favorite drink - cold sweet tea mixed with milk. (YUCK!) At any rate I had a moment and ran to pull out Daniel's food chart from Russia. Yup - tea was on there. I should have known - we helped feed him one night and they gave him tea to drink. I ran to the store the next morning and bought decaf, made a pot, barely (I mean barely) sweetened it and mixed it half with milk. Ta da!! My son loves it!!! Plus, he gets the minerals from the tea, which according to my health book can be very good for you. Well, that only took me almost 4 months to figure out!!

Anyway, here's a few pictures of our Play-doh experience.

Isn't it funny how they love taking lids off and putting them back on? Ours is usually water bottles though.

I hadn't thought of the tea idea either. Great thinking! Luckily, chocolate milk works for us!

What a cutie in that hat!! I've heard of tea & lemonade... and pepsi & milk (Laverne & Shirley!!) but never tea and milk! It's like your own tea-shake! Whatever gets him to drink it!

One question for my future sake (hopefully!) did you try any of the "2nd step" forumlas? Would he drink any of those?

I can still remember the taste of Play Doh! LOL It will be fun when Eli is old enough to play with it too, but I will try to keep it out of his mouth!

What a fantastic idea about the tea. We struggle with getting enough liquids around here. I know it felt so good to see him drinking it.

Photos are great. He is so cute!!!

Brilliant idea on the tea and milk! I will be trying that with our new little one who won't touch milk at all right now, but did drink tea in Russia.

Enjoy those Play Doh moments and all the other extra moments that come from being home more with Daniel! :)

We are both getting brave at the same time sounds like. I did fingerpainting with Dima todya during the girl's Handwriting time. He LOVED it. We only did blue since it is my 'color of the week' with him. I even made a little song as we swooshed the paint across the paper and got it all over our hands (and in Dima's case, his teeth). It goes: Blue blue blue, Blue blue blue. There's some on me and some on you. You like to eat it too. Blue, blue blue! Pretty catchy little diddy even if I do say so myself. ;)

I think he enjoyed the play-doh. I have been debating about trying that with Bryson. I am so jealous that Daniel sits for 5 minutes and plays with a toy or colors. I can't wait for that day!

I love you tea/milk mixture. I have to say the smell of milk or ice cream makes me feel sick. The last time I drank milk I literately choked it down and since then I decided I just can not drink it ever again. Maybe I will try that for myself.

I feel like I have gotten more lax with Victor than the girls regarding Play-doh. When the girls were little I made sure they always put colors back in right jars. Now we with Victor we have six jars and everyone of them is a mixed potpourri of colors! Oh, well.
