Out of Commission

Remember this…

As part of our 10 Things You May or May Not Know About Troy and I that we posted a few months ago, number 3 read as follows:

3. We look for emergency rooms as a joke now when we travel – this is for Troy (broken ribs from a flipped 4-wheeler), (stung by a catfish in Florida), (deer antler through foot – don’t ask). Just to name a few!! We joke that we are on retainer at the local emergency room and have our own parking spot.

Well this time we need to change the part that says –‘this is for Troy’.

Some of you may have noticed that we are missing from the photos of lunch at Chili’s in Nashville with our blog friends Adrienne & Jim, Carrie & Michael, Becky & Keith and Carey & Norman.

That’s because I was in the Emergency Room at Vanderbilt first thing Friday morning after having severe stomach and back pain Thursday night. By 1 pm Friday I was being prepped for surgery and by late afternoon my gallbladder had been removed. For someone who never goes to the Dr., unless forced, and someone who hasn’t been in the hospital for medical reasons, since she was three, this came as quite a shock.

Troy was a real trooper through all of this. He insisted on sending the night in my hospital room and helping me up every time I needed to get up which was pretty often, thanks to the IV pumping so much liquid into me. He had flowers sent to my room and while I was still in recovery he delivered a stuffed Shar-pei to me which I held onto by its tail the entire time I was in recovery and in the hospital.

I was so sad not to get to go the Pre-Adopt Class and also not to see my blogger friends. But...surprise, Becky and Keith and Carey and Norman came to my hospital room Saturday mid morning and spent some time with me. I was so happy to finally meet them and it was so nice to have some company being as far away from home as we were.

I was able to leave the hospital Saturday late afternoon and Sunday morning Becky and Keith brought bagels and cream cheese to our hotel room and we were able to chat. I was so glad to get to spend some time with them outside of the hospital. It does feel like chatting with an old friend!

To everyone who has checked on me – thank you!! I am sorry I have been so long blogging. I had a few decent days, then two bad days and today has been decent. I am hopeful to start back to work the middle of next week for half days, but so far I can’t sit up more than 20 or so minutes at a time without pillows. This one post has taken me three days to write!! I’ll try to update again soon.

YEA!!!!! You've returned to blog land! I know the gallbladder removal was painful, but do you know how painful email land has been without you?!?! :-) We were happy to bring bagels and get to chat - you guys are the cutest. Speaking of guys... that husband of yours REALLY loves you a lot. What a sweetheart!

Oh Rachel -
I'm so glad that you are alright! I didn't know about the emergency surgery, but it's good that you got it taken care of just think it's better to have it happen in the states then when you are traveling to meet your little one! What a sweet husband you have ... hopefully I'll be lucky enough to find one of those one day! Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Oh Rachel! I am sooo sorry to hear about your gallbladder! I was wondering where you were. You do have travelers insurance (medical) for when you go to Russia right? With the track record of Troy and now you, it pays to be prepared! :-) I hope you are feeling better soon!

So sorry to hear about your gall bladder. Glad to hear that you are getting better. I second Jackie's suggestion on the traveler's insurance (just in case). Good to see you "up and around" in the blog world. Take care, Hugs, Amy

Rachel,

I'm so glad to see you are back in action online! I am soooo sorry you had to go through this pain and surgery and now the recovery process. My brother just had his gallbladder out today and has had very similar pain to what you had!!

I wish we could have met you while you were in town. Maybe you'll be at the next pre-adopt class in December and we can meet for lunch?!? :)

Hope your recovery continues to go well so you can be back on your feet again soon. Enjoy the pampering from that sweet husband of yours. Sounds like he is taking very good care of you!

I'm also very glad to have you back. I've missed your blogs and responses to our blog.

We enjoyed meeting you as well. Sorry to intrude in the hospital, but I really wanted to meet you since you had driven so far to come visit us all in Nashville.

Troy is so nice. He took such good care of you while you were in the hospital and was so nice to all of us calling and hounding him about your well being. Thanks Troy!

I hope you continue to get better and get some much needed rest. Let us know if we can do anything!!

I'm so sorry to hear that you were in the hospital - ouch! That must be so painful for you. Take care of yourself and know that there's nothing going on in adoption-land anyway! You haven't missed much.. we're all still in the never never land of waiting. UGH. I'm really glad to hear you're ok now though. I was worried when you had not posted in awhile. As for me, well, there's really nothing to say - just living and waiting! Again, take care and get lots of rest -
Hugs -

What an unfortunate adventure! At least you were still able to meet with some of your group. It sounds like a painful recovery. My prayers go out to you as you recuperate.
