Well, lo and behold, we put him on the bike and he took off. He still lifts his feet off the pedals all the time, so we are working on that, but on a flat surface he does great. We are also trying to teach him to watch where he is going. This is where get most of our laughs from. Uphill riding is a whole different story - that just hasn't come yet and super mom (that's me!) took Daniel down the hill on our road and didn't even think about him not being able to cycle back up so I ended up pushing him all the way back up. Never again - I take a dog leash now and loop it on the front of the bike and pull! We may look funny, but at least my back is still in one piece!
The first day was so funny because we didn't yet have a helmet etc. as we didn't think he would be able to take off. Well, he took off down the hill and I was running frantically behind him and I saw him start to lose control. At this point I yelled, "the grass, the grass, turn into the grass" and...
He actually listened to me the first time and turned into the grass and fell over. He was fine, but we immediately hopped into the car and bought a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads!!
We also held a birthday party at our house outside for my grandneice, Karmen. She turned 2 and is as cute as a button. Daniel drove her around in the jeep and they had a blast. Troy and the some of the other parents present gave 4-wheeler rides which was a big hit also.
Of course Daniel takes off with Karmen in the jeep and heads right down our sloped side yard and somehow Troy miraculously caught them before the jeep rammed the bottom and it was pretty funny because all the sudden we see Karmen stomping up the hill. Troy said she looked disgusted with Daniel and immediately got out of the jeep when it stopped and started up the hill. I'm thinking major drivers ed in the future!!
Enjoy the pictures!!
Foot off the pedal, we're working on that!On my way down the hill, Mama running backwards like a silly goose to get a photo!
Chilling with Papa, waiting to be served cake and ice cream!
Driving Miss Daisy safely for the moment!

They are the funniest, aren't they?? We got Aidan a big boy bike for his birthday--tomorrow. He's been riding a two wheeler for a while that doesn't have pedals. I'm not too sure he'll know what to do with the pedals! Drivers Ed for us too. . . I'll commiserate with you when the time comes! : )
I can just see you running backwards trying to take the photo...the things a Mom will do to capture the moment. Love it.
He is doing really well on that bike...it is so fun to watch them try things out for the first time.

What fun you all are having! Love the pics!
I would have been yelling the same thing..."the grass, the grass,...." LOL!
Hello! It has been a while and I am finally checking-in on everyone. I am so happy to see you all doing well! Daniel looks like such a big boy on that bike - So cute!! Take care...Teresa
I love it! He's so stinkin' cute on that bike!!! Great pictures Mom!
Fun, we just talked about training wheels and tricycles for little boys. Helmets are so needed now. When we where little we did not have them.
Daniel looks like he is having a wonderful time. I like how you tell him to aim for the grass, hehe.

Too funny! J wants to ride a bicycle sooo bad, but he can't reach the pedals yet! I imagine though that we will also be having the same kind of experience with him! I loved the pictures of Daniel on his bike!
I can't believe he is riding a bicycle already! Look at him go! When did our babies become so grown-up?! And would they mind slowing down a little for the sake of their sentimental mommies?!
How cute is Daniel riding on his bike. He looks so big! I'm glad you are doing well and enjoying the warmer weather. So glad it is summer!!
So you got yourself a motor-head?! That is great. Dmitry is one too. And now, that includes airplanes. One can't fly over without him stopping to acknowledge (and usually celebrate) it's presence. ;) It's the boy thing again. I always love reading about Daniel. He and Dmitry seem to have SO much in common.
I cannot believe how big he has gotten in the past few months. He is like a little man!!!!!
I hope all is well with you and the family.
All the best,
Stephanie

Hey there! I just blog-awarded you...come check it out!
He looks so cute on his bike! I'm glad he is doing so well with it, and you are a good mom for remembering to get all of the safety equipment! Fun times!
We just got Noah a bike for his graduation. He also had trouble with the tricycle for the longest time (he is 4.5) and just recently "got it." The pictures are great!!
Good times! Looks like a summer of fun is about to be had!
Can't get over how cute he has gotten! Congrats on your one year anniversary too!
Valerie
p.s. I think your son's referral pic was the cutest one I've ever seen. And...he looks so much like the both of you it's scary!
Hehehehe... I can totally picture you running backwards down the street! I did that with Andrew and I went one step closer to crazy when I laid on the ground while he drove his toy car right at me. :-) The things we do to preserve our children's memories! :-) Hope you had a great long weekend!
Great story and pics! You had me cracking up - I could visualize you running to catch him and yelling "the grass! the grass!" and could see myself doing the same thing, lol! They keep us hopping, don't they?!
