Out of the Blues....

For the past week or so I hate to admit that I have had the blues about the adoption process. We were notified our coordinator left our agency and were assigned another very nice coordinator. She and I talked for a while and it appears that we still have quite a wait on our hands. I think Troy and I really hoped we would travel for the first trip before the end of the year. Now it sounds as if we may be waiting until January at the very earliest. I know I should have been prepared for that and compared other countries - 10 months isn’t that big a deal, but I wasn’t prepared at all. A very special thanks to Becky who has put up with my whining all week long!!

After being initially shocked and then mad and then just plain sad, I emailed both of my jobs and said I was taking an impromptu vacation in September. I went home, cleared it with Troy, who also had to let both of his jobs know (obviously we are working way too much) that we are in fact going on vacation, something we missed this summer in the hopes of traveling to Russia.

So.......between last night and today I booked our vacation in St. Lucia!!! Now, Troy has never flown before so I figured why not go all out and have him fly now. Plus we will leave out of the same airport we will leave out of when we travel to Russia. So technically, we are still getting ready for the adoption—right!?!? This way we’ll know where the airport is and how to get around.

Unfortunately, I have never booked airline tickets so close to a travel date and we had a time trying to get tickets without 8 plus hours of layovers and arriving on the island before midnight so in the end we paid a little more, got decent hours, but we can’t sit next to each other on Troy’s very first flight. However, I CAN sit directly behind him and hit him over the head if I need to!!!

So, off we will go mid-September. We are staying in a sea house that overlooks Marigot Bay. They have tons of activities from day sailings to fishing excursions to snorkeling etc. Oh, I can’t wait.

The pink houses/condos on the right side of the picture is where we will be. This is an acutaly photo from an attorney at work who was there on a cruise about a month ago!! At least we know it is as pretty as the pictures on the internet.

Oh yeah – I did have about an hour of pure panic after booking everything about vacation days left at work (hardly any) and of course funds for the adoption (there is a reason we are each working two jobs) and I called my husband and told him I was going to go throw up. In his usual calm way, with his usual 'calm down Rachel' voice, he says, “Why are you worried about it now? It’s done, it’s paid for, there’s nothing you can do about it and either we go or we stay and I don’t know about you, but I’m going and I hope you’re coming with me.” Ahhhh, now I remember why I love this man so much!!

I know how you feel. The news about Sue leaving shocked us too. It just seems like there is one thing after another. Maybe we need to book a vacation and get out of here too. Sounds like fun!

My dear, the pleasure was all mine! Lord knows you return the favor all of the time! I'm so jealous of your impromptu vacation and if you were flying through Atlanta I would most certainly find a way to squeeze into your luggage! You deserve the vacation - both of you do! Isn't it amazing how women are the big shoppers but men can rationalize big purchases in a way that makes us wonder what we were worrying about? :-) We sure love them though don't we?? Alright... I'm writing a book. Murphy's Law says that since you're booking a vacation, using vacation time and money things will happen sooner in the adoption arena then you think! Hmm... maybe I need a vacation then!

Good for you!!! I am so glad you are taking this vacation for yourselves while you can! I am sorry to hear your wait time seems to be getting longer, but I know your little one will be waiting for you and you will hold that sweet munchkin in your arms at just the right time. I heard this so many times and never believed it completely until we met Owen. Hang in there and have a WONDERFUL trip!!

Good luck with the flight Troy! It will be great :O)

This vacation will do you good, it will (hopefully) take your mind of the adoption for a little while and give you a fresh start for the Fall/Winter. And I think it'll be good for Troy to have a flight under his belt before the LONG flight to Moscow. I think this vacation is just what you need. Have a great time!!!!

I know, easier said than done!

Rachel -
You're so sweet! I meanI know it must be so hard to wait and wait and plan in your mind what you want to happen. Then when reality hits and that's got to be tough to swallow! I'm happy that you two are taking a vacation - by the way I really hope that I can see some pictures - when you get back! I'm super jealous. I've been to the Bahamas and I just loved it there! Have a great day!

Whoo Hooo! Pull out the bathing suits, we're going to St. Lucia!! What a great idea to spend a fun vacation together. The picture looked fabulous and who wouldn't want to go sailing, snorkeling, or whatever else you can plan. Have fun and I can't wait to see pictures in October.

Way to go! It looks like a beautiful place. We also took a vacation, to California a couple of weeks ago, and it helped us "perk up". It was our last big trip as a family of three.

Rachel,
I think this is a great idea. I think it is very important for you to take this vacation and to take it now. I also think that it is imperative that your husband fly at least once before going to Russia. Why not fly to a beautiful island. Gerard does not like to fly but I have made the decision to buy a set of noise canceling headphones for him. I know that they are sold at Wal-Mart or Best Buy. They reduce the noise by about 75%. I know Gerard will need them when he goes to Russia. Just a thought. Have fun for me too.

What a great idea! You need to do get that time in as a couple before your child comes. I cannot wait to hear how that and the flight goes. Always here if you need to chat..this wait time seems to be more difficult as time goes on but remember - it's August...we'll pray for accredidation and more referrals while you're tanning yourself!

Enjoy your trip!

What was the reason for the delay until January? Mareda leaving didn't have anything to do with it, did it?

I also know how you feel about the wait. It can be very hard at times! I'm glad you are feeling better. Your trip sounds amazing! I think it is a great idea!

Just now catching up on my blogs. So glad you scheduled a vacation and spent the money. It really is so important to find time to relax during this process. And working 2 jobs each I'm guessing you don't see each other often so it will be good to get away together.
